Privacy Policy

In short

Unless you sign in or choose to send feedback, MioType sends nothing to us. When you sign in and use cloud features, we keep only your account details and usage counts — never your voice or the text you dictate. What a feedback report carries is described under Feedback.

On your Mac

Speech is recognized on your Mac by a built-in offline model by default; your voice never leaves the computer. Dictation history, your dictionary and settings are stored locally; you can turn history off or clear it at any time.

With your own API key

If you enter your own key for AI polishing, translation or third-party speech recognition, text or audio goes from your Mac directly to the provider you chose (Alibaba Cloud Model Studio by default), not through our servers, and is governed by that provider’s privacy policy.

Cloud features after signing in

Cloud recognition, polishing and Ask forward that request’s audio or text through our server to Alibaba Cloud Model Studio (阿里云百炼) for processing, and the result goes straight back to you. Our server does not store audio or text; it records only the word count, request type and time of each request to track your monthly allowance.

Account data we keep

Your email, display name, hashed password (for email sign-up), your Google or GitHub account identifier (when you sign in with them), and the IP address and device details of your sign-in sessions (to keep you signed in and secure). Password-reset emails are sent through Microsoft Azure Communication Services.

Settings backup

Only when you choose Back up are your settings, dictionary and dictation history uploaded to your account so you can restore them on another Mac; each backup replaces the previous one.

Feedback

When you flag a history item to send feedback, we receive that item’s text, the correction and note you enter, your recognition and polishing settings at the time, and the app and macOS versions. If you are signed in, the report is linked to your account; if not, we keep only an irreversible hash of the sender’s IP address to prevent abuse. The recording is uploaded only if you tick “Include this recording”: we delete our copy 90 days after receiving it, while the written report is kept to improve recognition. Recordings and history on your Mac are not affected and follow the history setting in the app.

What we never do

We do not sell or rent your data, do not train models on your content, and run no ads or third-party trackers.
